Will Your Retirement Well Run Dry?

By Marc H. Weiss

Archer Weiss can help you retire well by ensuring your financial well never runs dry.

Now, more than ever, we need certainty in our lives.

Twice in the last decade, heavy losses in the stock market have wrecked the savings plans of investors of all ages. Those who have already left their jobs have seen their retirement hopes dashed.

Can You Guarantee Your Income?

Now that people are living longer, retirees need to provide an income for 20 to 30 years or more. To accomplish this, investors must guarantee themselves three things:

(1) CONTROL of their money

(2) ACCESS to their money

(3) SAFETY of their money

An Equity Index Annuity: The Well That Never Runs Dry

An Equity Index Annuity guarantees the control, access, and safety of your savings. It’s like a well that never runs dry—no matter how long you live.

In exchange for a lump sum, an Equity Index Annuity guarantees regular retirement payments for the rest of your life.

Gambling on the Stock Market

Most investors are trained to think in terms of accumulating wealth, with a focus on rates of return, market risk, and the like. But when you think about it, stock market investing is no different than gambling. With stocks, bonds, mutual funds, ETFs, etc., the outcome is out of your control.

So, Do You Feel Lucky?

The question investors need to ask themselves is, “Am I willing to place all or most of my money in the stock market and gamble that we won’t have another meltdown like 2008, 2003, 1997 or 1987?” (To say nothing of market downturns going all the way back to the stock market crash of 1929 and earlier.)

Think of Your Annuity as a Pension

If your objective is to ensure enough money to live on, no matter how long you live, think consumption instead of accumulation. Then an annuity is a no-brainer. We tell clients that they’re buying their own pension (like Social Security) and guarantee a check every month.

For hundreds of years, the wealthy have turned their monies into guaranteed sustainable streams of income that last as long as they live. Now you can, too!

  1. Thanks for the clarification. When evaluating what types of investments are appropriate it is so important to consider your age and estimated time of retirement. All those under 30 have plenty of years to ride the roller coaster. Those of us over 40 have less time so we are ready for the stability that an annuity offers.
